about

This is my first proper studio album after many years wandering in the wilderness with only an Atari ST and later a powerbook G4 for company. Of course, I didn't know how to use either of them, so I made contact with Digby my producer, and now I have this shiny record.

I've enabled unlimited streaming here, so feel free to listen as much as you want.

Track Name: the crescent
I'll leave it all alone tonight
force it when the time is right
of everything I do I might as well
ignore it when the moment comes
step aside for just this once
imagine there is nothing that needs to be done

sleeping on the slow boat sailing west
waking on the last train to nowhere
but I'm gonna speak the word when I get there

can you see the crescent lighten up the dark tonight?

it only takes the breath in me
the howling call of destiny
the smoking ash of wisdom that's rising in me
you're special when you're nobody
but nobody's that special to me
that nobody is silently drowning my dreams

walking on the water dirty and deep
crashing like a wave of ice on the beach
stirring up a tempest of apathy

can you see the crescent lighten up the dark tonight?
Track Name: killing is my business (remix)
these nights when I close my eyes and the demons are gathering round
two wrongs are the rights I'm given before I'm cutting you down
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?

your people are reigning terror on me, you know what they do
I'm not crusading I'm caring in armour, I suffer for you
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
is it really wrong to use my heart only for good?

I need to feel heat in my veins I need to be moved

and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
Track Name: north of the woods
every night it's the same they follow you home
listening in so discretely you never will know
a fortune sold in secrets and the rush of control
hiding north of the woods

you never even had time to sound the alarm
throwing open the doors with no skin on your arms
the evidence was clear; there never was a bomb here
north of the woods

but if you see me pulled to the ground
call off the dogs - it's too late now
without a single shred to be found
you'd better be brave boy
you'd better be brave boy

don't tell me how you had longed for the truth to come out
tied up to a chair with a rag in your mouth
you never said your prayers now you're riddled with doubt
and north of the woods your jury's out

but if you see me pulled to the ground
call off the dogs - it's too late now
without a single shred to be found
you'd better be brave boy
and stare in the face of our rage - and run
the buildings coming down one by one
and everything you thought you'd escaped from
has got you on the run

but if you see me pulled to the ground
call off the dogs - it's too late now
without a single shred to be found
you'd better be brave boy
you'd better be brave boy

they've got you on the run
Track Name: never wake up
what have you done with all your time
you say you've never felt so alive
beyond your heart where danger lies
you paint your windows white like prison walls and you hide

these are the strangest of times
we all go to pieces it's alright
you're crying for the summertime
you'll never wake up to find

so you command you're here to stay
drowning your sins in their river of hate
stand in the light, the bright unknown
declare what love you have left before the wind blows

these are the strangest of times
we all go to pieces it's alright
you're crying for the summertime
you'll never wake up to find

don't turn around to see what's left
spitting out your final breath
you never thought you'd wasted all your time
your fighting days are done
look what we've become

these are the strangest of times
we all go to pieces it's alright
you're crying for the summertime
you'll never wake up to find
Track Name: opium fiend
brazen and broken, the fiend beds down in the park
uppers meet downers, the light steps aside for the dark
a blanket soaked by morning, a consciousness sets sail
and the wind blows hard

the kindness of strangers manifested in the newlyweds
in the cold light and warm welcome the vagrant washed and duly fed
by the next morning the desperate had fled

face down in the dark
the last words they won't hear
the wound that leaves no mark
do you know how I feel?

the fiend is not an orphan even though his mother says he's one
and it's too late for adoption so he takes his place out with the junk

face down in the dark
the last words they won't hear
the wound that leaves no mark
do you know how I feel?

skip forward seven years, the fiend is captive in the den
and the shameful oblivion is leading the march along his veins
and on the final morning the warden cried for help
please help
do you know how I feel?
the wound that leaves no mark
do you now how I feel?
Track Name: dignity
I never understood why we don't love anyone
couldn't fathom out why we can't deny ourselves
does anybody know that you can't come back again?
I hope I go out with dignity

it's easier to think that you just don't want to hurt
always hard to see things only for what they're worth
does anybody know that you don't get what you deserve?
I hope I go out with dignity
I never understood why there's no dignity

how does it feel when you know you're crawling?
how does it feel when you know what you are?
I never understood about love
Track Name: raised by wolves
I knew a man who was raised by wolves
red in nail and claw and tooth
wanted to shine with a moral highness
he stole my eyes then complained of blindness

my blindness has come
my colours gone
to brighten no-one

do as I say not as I do
if you want to be a professional fool
once you are in there is no going back
initiate to my suicide pact

my silence has come
my songs all gone
to buy your protection

from god we came
from love we wait
for god to say I am

lower your eyes cover your face
put your woman back in her place
I will redeem you whenever I deign
to drive my gravity back in your veins

my kindness has come
to you the one
my chosen son
Track Name: laissez-faire
laissez-faire my appetite has come
and my disciples you must learn to come undone
dressed in robes you can touch a living heart
so I send my priests out with the dogs before I start

I've come to make your fortune
so don't you dare complain
I hold a major stake in this

I'm not the one you should be fighting
I already know what you want
you already know where I hide it
I'm letting you know without ambiguity
I'll repossess your children
to pay for all your greed

I haven't made my fortune
so don't you dare complain
I own the boots you walk in
so don't get in my way
you'll never cure my envy
they'll murder me one day - like you

I'll never make my fortune
you better not complain
I bought the air you're breathing
do not get in my way
I get caught up so quickly
I'll go to hell one day - with you
Track Name: take everything
The creaking door that lets you in
has rot to the hinges and given up to sin
you lost your hat in an idle wind
the curses of millions follow you in

the saints go marching in with their guns
the eyes of the world, the weight of the sun
and blood is bursting out through the skin
you should go and you should take everything

are we not designed to love in this life?
cut out the tongue, the pain just doesn't taste right
your envoy of peace is a merchant of lies
the window for change a single breath wide

the saints go marching in with their guns
the eyes of the world, the weight of the sun
and blood is bursting out through the skin
you should go and you should take everything

are we not taught to suffer when nothing's wrong?
are we not taught to never belong...
Track Name: killing is my business
these nights when I close my eyes and the demons are gathering round
two wrongs are the rights I'm given before I'm cutting you down
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?

your people are reigning terror on me, you know what they do
I'm not crusading I'm caring in armour, I suffer for you
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
is it really wrong to use my heart only for good?

I need to feel heat in my veins I need to be moved
but I can't be moved

I'm not gonna grow old
not gonna back down
I'm not gonna grow poor
I worked too hard for that

and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
killing is my business and business is good
is it really wrong to use my heart the way I do?
